Connecting to DOTA 2 Network...

As of last night when i load the game i get stuck on Connecting to DOTA 2 Network... any help??? no idea where to find out if its just me or anyone else getting the problem

standard question #1: did you check your firewall?

Friend of mine had tis problem for a month. In the end it was because of the fact, that he had cracked games in his steam files. He deleted them and the problem was gone.

When you mention firewall i decided to check for the ports i need open for my router as AVG has the rule to allow ok, i found a thread addressing common technical problems with launching and found my issue, it turned out that i shouldn't launch the game through the .exe i had attached to my task bar.

Launching only through steam client resolved the issue in case anyone else comes across the problem.

Interesting that when i searched the specific problem i could not locate a solution (thus posting here)
