I had this very same discussion with my mate yesterday and was as well wondering why he wasn't played as melee support like Tide or ES. He has pretty much the same stat growth than the 2 others, same move speed as ES and even an increased night vision 1200 when the 2 others have 800.

I wanted to see if we could consider picking him when tide is banned or picked by opponent.

Moreover he is the first pub stomper (1st winner win over 60% win) and the rest of the top 5 heroes are either perma ban (lycan) or often pick (lich/ursa/tide)
He is the only one that is just never picked by pro. (4 times over 1500 games played in one year)

I'm not saying he should be perma pick/ban but I'm really wondering why he isn't in at least 5-10% games like batrider (which is terribad nowadays)

The only drawback I see compared to tide/es is that the range of Leech Seed is way too small, but do it makes him unplayable in CW ? I'm really not sure and I'll probably play him with the exact same role as Tide/ES because I wanna know.

He cant be support. He needs safe lane farm. He has nice regen, armor and damage. You can let him solo agaist any hero and he will lasthit/deny every creep. After 20 minutes of game he just suck.

I think a major drawback of treant compared to other melees like tide is the one point in armour. I mean, he has 1 point armor where heroes like tide got 5 points. I like treants concept and playstyle but the low armour makes him incredible hard to lane against ranged supporters and from what I have seen so far you barely get into a lane with double melee. His passive will make up for the low armour later on but since you have serious trouble in the early stages it wont matter. Tide on the other hand has a great passive to avoid such early beating, two nice active skills to harrass a bit better than treant and his ulti is more useful imo.Earthshaker while suffering from a pretty low manapool has a super long range cut-off stun, follow up stun and devastating ulti. His armour aint the best also but itīs not as low as treants.
I might be completely off with this statement but treant seems to me like a supporter who needs to be supported himself. But he doesnt have enough advantages over heroes like ES/Tide to be played in such a role and as a lanesupporter he just wont cut it.

considering that the metagame is all about pushing i'm not sure this argument is valid.
Testnewbie arguments are way more convincing to me.

As the OPs idea was to babysitt with this heal, pushing is NOT what you want. Pushing strat != "carry strat".

I would love to ask some known professional player about Treant Protector. But when I was at Dreamhack Summer I did not have this question inside my head (at DH I talked to syndereN for a minute or two and took pictures with him aswell as Tobi).

In my opinion, Treant is a powerful hero and he's even more powerful compared to Tide when the enemy team start getting BKBs because of the fact that his ultimate goes through BKB. But, there are some reasons why people prefer Tide to Treant. First is because of Kraken Shell which would give Tide a chance to use his ultimate. Second is because Treant's invisibility could be countered by tree destroying skills and when having that invisibility, you couldn't just run away since you need to be near a tree. Third is because Treant needs more farm compared to Tide to be as useful as Tide in team fights, and that is because Treant's skills are more expensive compared to Tide's skills. Fourth is Treant's ulti doesn't stun those that are affected, it only prevents them from moving and attacking, but they could still cast most of the spells while affected by it.

Another thing to be looked at is that Treant should be placed at 2nd or 3rd spot in the team while Tide could be placed at 3rd or 4th spot. A strategy that could work with Treant is a strategy that was once popular in HoN which is massing tanky heroes and building them with more health items while ignoring the armor since you already have a passive armor bonus with Treant's passive (Yes, I know that HoN's version of Treant has a different set of skill, but it could still work to a certain extent).
